Public Process 2017
SculptureCenter's free three-week summer intensive program for high schoolers. The program, held at SculptureCenter's exhibition space and at public art sites throughout New York City, will run from July 3-21 (class do not meet July 4th or on the weekends).
Public Process offers high school students the opportunity to become informed and active citizens in commissioning a work of art, to gain hands-on experience in civic cultural representation, and to introduce an innovative new artwork to the public realm. Program participants explore the city's public art landscape and learn about its history and future from the people who create today's most visible cultural projects. Throughout the program, students visit public art sites, meet with arts professionals, and learn from artists in their studios to gain a deeper understanding of what goes into creating a public artwork. At the culmination of the program, students form a selection panel and choose a temporary public artwork to be produced by SculptureCenter for a site in Long Island City, Queens. Past Public Process classes have commissioned Mika Tajima's Meridian (Gold) for the waterfront of Hunter's Point South Park and the forthcoming Words Like Love: Alphaville, First Scenes, a billboard for Jackson Avenue by Alejandro Cesarco.
Please contact me or Amelia Brod if you have any questions. I can be reached by phone (203-536-8862) or by email and Amelia can be reached at [email protected].
This year, we have also added a new promotional video to the website to give students an idea of what the program is like: www.sculpture-center.org/publicprocess.

Making Your Mark is a free summer art program for teens that introduces the work and vision of artist Isamu Noguchi, and provides a supportive environment where participants can identify and pursue their own creative interests. This summer, the core activities of MYM will include looking at and discussing arts at The Noguchi Museum, learning how to work with traditional and non traditional sculptural materials such as stone and found objects, and spending substantial time making your own art.
Students who are entering 10th-12th grades may apply to participate. Apply by June 1, 2016 at education.noguchi.org/makingyourmark
Dates/Times: July 5 - August 4, 2016. The program meets Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 11am - 3pm. Final exhibition opening: Friday August 5th.
Please see Justin Casale in guidance if you would like to mail a hard copy application.
