Spotted Drum Expeditions
Spotted Drum Expeditions, a ecology-based citizen science/diving organization in the Mexican Caribbean, is pleased to announce our 2016 Coral Reef Camp & Advanced Coral Reef Camp for high-school students ages 16-18. We focus on the biology and ecology of Caribbean coral reefs, mangroves, and cenotes, and give students learn research techniques and participate in long-term reef biodiversity monitoring & research in the area. During the course, we take field trips to local reefs and cenotes, talk to local ecology experts, and learn about ecology and conservation initiatives in the area. We also provide dive training (and PADI Open Water certification if needed) throughout the course.
This is an excellent chance to gain valuable research experience with a diverse group of students! College credit & scholarship funds may be available. We offer two sessions this summer -- please consult our website for program details. Applications are open now!

Yale Young Global Scholars - Singapore
At the inaugural session of Yale Young Global Scholars-Singapore (YYGS-Singapore), 200 talented high school students from around the world will have the opportunity to learn from distinguished Yale faculty, Yale students, and practitioners, all while experiencing residential life at the state-of-the-art Yale-NUS College in Singapore.
In this immersive week-long program, students will participate in interdisciplinary lectures, elective seminars, and – new to YYGS – a series of skill-building workshops specially designed to foster leadership, develop communication and presentation skills, and enhance critical reading and writing. By combining year-long mentorship with a current Yale student and opportunities to engage with a host of like-minded peers, YYGS-Singapore will set a new generation of young leaders on the path toward continued success in high school, college, and beyond.

VISIONS is based on the idyllic island of Marie Galante. Known as the “island of a hundred mills”, echoes of the historic sugar industry still remain and ox drawn carts transport cane from field to factory.
In Guadeloupe, French is spoken with a musical lilt and Creole is a second mother tongue. Very few local people speak English, creating an immersion experience ripe for improving language skills.

·You must currently be in grades 8-11. If we are able to extend trip offerings to students in other grades, we will let you all know as soon as possible.
·You are able to spend two to four weeks during the summer to go on a teen tour or community service trip with an established teen travel company. All applicants should try to keep the month of July free on their summer schedules.
·Your family must qualify for financial need either through the Free Lunch Program, Food Stamps, or another federal assistance program. If you don’t qualify for these programs but can still exhibit financial need, please email us so we can work with you to determine whether you are qualified to apply. This is a needs based program.
·You have never been suspended from school or been involved in any criminal activity.
·You will use the experience to become a catalyst for change in your community. Previous students have volunteered at hospitals, started community service clubs, and have run for student government all as a result of their experiences.

The 10-day trip will include two days in Rome, with guided tours of the Roman Forum, the Vatican and the Sistine Chapel, and the Colosseum. Then they will travel south to the Naples and Sorrento region, take a guided tour and cruise around the beautiful island of Capri, and then head to Sicily, where they will see Mount Etna, ancient Greek theaters, Palermo, and Siracusa. This will be a fabulous trip and a wonderful educational opportunity for our students, and we invite all BHSEC Queens students and parents to go along with us.
The price for students under 18, which includes flights, hotels, sightseeing guides, site tours, ground transportation, breakfast and dinner every day, and all-inclusive trip insurance (basically everything except spending money), is only $3485.
